Durable. Stable. Sustainable. That's Accoya.
Accoya is a fast growing softwood from managed farms, treated with acetic anhydride during a non-toxic process called acetylation.
The process changes the cell structure of the timber fibres, making it far more durable and resistant to rot. It also prevents the timber swelling, shrinking or distorting like traditional timber, meaning more consistency and less waste.
This natural process does not compromise the wood’s strength; in fact hardness is increased and with a high strength to weight ratio, it is well suited to challenging applications. Accoya has consistent measurable modification quality from surface to core. so there is no need to apply chemical preservatives when cut or planed.
This durability means that the manufacturers can offer a 50 year warranty when used above ground in applications such as doors, windows, cladding and fascias, and even 25 years when used in contact with soil or water, such as fence posts, landscape furniture and planters, bridges, garden rooms - you name it.
It is indigestible to a wide range of insects, including termites, so has greatly reduced vulnerability. Superior stability means swelling and shrinkage are reduced by 75% or more and it offers improved insulation in comparison with commonly used wood species, making it ideal for exterior windows and doors.

Matt Morley from James Latham talks through the performance benefits of Accoya - and MEDITE Tricoya Extreme, a panel product made from Accoya fibres.
Accoya - the perfect base for a beautiful finish
When it comes to achieving a long-lasting finish with minimal maintenance and maximum reliability, Accoya offers unrivalled stability for results that endure.
The dimensional stability of the product means it is ideal for coating or painting, where the lack of movement means the coatings aren’t subjected to the type of movement they receive from a traditional timber substrate.
Coatings go on with ease, and you’ll have less preparation and reduced need for sanding beforehand. As well as being beautiful to look at, Accoya is a real timesaver, both during fabrication and for future care requirements.
For use on Accoya, we recommend Sansin and Teknos finishes. These brands offer a wide variety of colours and finishes, and offer redecoration timescales of up to ten years, dependent upon exposure, orientation and other design factors.
Accoya’s stability reduces cracking and paint failure, allowing for extended coating lifespans. Our in-house finishing service at Latham Timber Manufacturing provides fully finished products to save time and ensure consistent application.
Accoya has superior UV resistance and when used with translucent coatings, will retain its natural beauty.
Matt Morley talks you through why Accoya is the ultimate choice for a flawless, low-maintenance finish – perfect for long-lasting coatings and beautiful results.
Leading the way in sustainable timber innovation
Accoya’s industry-leading environmental credentials are hard to beat. From source to production and through to end of life, Accoya is a sustainable choice. It is:
• Non toxic and 100% recyclable
• CO² negative over its full life cycle
The acetylation process that produces Accoya is entirely non-toxic. In fact, it’s very natural – the main chemical used is Acetic Anhydride, the main constituent part of vinegar.
Accredited by the FSC and Cradle to Cradle Gold certified™, it is the only construction material in the world to achieve C2C Platinum certification™ for Material Health.
By significantly enhancing the durability and dimensional stability of fast growing, abundantly available certified wood species, Accoya has huge environmental advantages over scarcer slow growing hardwoods, woods treated with toxic chemicals, and non-renewable carbon-intensive materials such as plastics, steel and concrete.
Because it is such a strong and stable wood, maintenance and replacement times are greatly increased, which is good for the planet and great for you.
When you use Accoya wood, you can be confident that you are making a responsible choice for the environment.
Matt Morley talks you through why Accoya is one of the most sustainable wood choices available – non-toxic, fully recyclable, and certified from source to end of life.
